Black joy is an important form of resistance because it is a way of fighting back against the control that society has over Black people's happiness and well being. It contributes to a collective healing of oppression, and helps in restoring the power and sense of justice within the Black community. Black joy as a form of resistance in many ways highlights the pride and strength the Black community has in overcoming barriers and obstacles that come with navigating a society that was not built for Black people.

Its a form of defiance. A way to stand up and proclaim that black joy and black people cannot be kept down. It is a form of reclaiming power that, from what it seemed like the mother in the article described, she had not felt in a long time. It also seemed like like the joy she and her daughter felt was so pure and bright. It was a loud proclamation that was full of self love and love for the community.
